Site Preparation for Your New Library Facility Begins!
September 6th, 2023
After an unexpected delay, the Board of Trustees is excited to announce that site preparation for our new Library Facility began on September 6th, 2023. Work will now continue as previously planned in June. We thank you for your continued patience with this process!
June 6th, 2023
The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that construction for the New Library Project will commence on Monday, June 12th! During the months of June and July, site clearing will begin and tree protection will be put in place to protect the trees and shrubs that will remain. The site plan that was approved by the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Environmental Resources was carefully designed to minimize site disturbance. Although certain trees and shrubs will be removed, the site plan proposes to maintain a good portion of the existing mature and higher caliper trees. All overgrowth on the site will be removed to accommodate site improvements and a variety of native plantings. Once the new Library is completed, there will be an overall increase in useable community green space. Watch for progress updates via our website and future newsletters. We look forward to sharing our progress with you!
As residents, the Board members understand the importance of minimizing the impact of construction on the community and thank you for your patience as we move forward. We continue to work with H2M Architects & Engineers, who developed the construction documents, and with Stalco Construction, who will construct the building and complete all of the site improvements. We are extremely confident in the abilities of these two companies to deliver the library facility this community deserves.
A Message from the Library Director
April 17th, 2023
I hope this message finds you well. The Library Board of Trustees and I are excited to update you on the progress of your new library building. It has been a great start to 2023!
Once we had site plan approval from the Town of Oyster Bay in hand, we were able to successfully secure a Aa2 rating from Moody’s as well as receive financing with the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. For the public vote in 2020, we had provided an estimated average annual debt service to the community of $765,000 for a 20-year series of bonds. We are pleased to report that, despite recent increases in rates by the Federal Reserve, the average annual debt service on the bonds will be $765,000.
As I write this at the beginning of April, receipt of building permits from the Town of Oyster Bay is imminent. Before you read this, you may have already seen construction crews mobilizing at the site. We will be continuing to work with H2M Architects & Engineers, who developed from their design proposal a working set of construction documents; and will be working with Stalco Construction, the company awarded the construction contract. We are extremely confident in the abilities of these two companies to deliver the library facility this community deserves.
We are hopeful that the recent nice weather continues so that construction is not interrupted. Please go to the library website, www.goldcoastlibrary.org, for frequent progress updates. Throughout construction, the existing Library and Library Annex on Railroad Avenue will continue to operate. Our digital resources – books, audiobooks, magazines, movies, and music – are continually evolving and are available 24/7. And we are thrilled to welcome so many of you back in person post-Covid. Our staff continues to work hard to make sure our usual high level of services and offerings is maintained.
I look forward to continuing to work with all of you in a library that is such a great example of what can be accomplished when it is powered by community. I am proud of the work we have acomplished in my eleven years here and excited about meeting future challenges. The Board of Trustees and I thank you for your continued support and patience as we see this project through to completion.
