The Resolution to Approve the Sale of 50 Railroad Avenue has Passed.
Yes Votes: 133, No Votes: 2
The Gold Coast Library Board of Trustees is happy to announce that it has reached an agreement on the sale of 50 Railroad Avenue to the owner of Little Bumble Bee Daycare. The buyer meets the criteria the board established when it began a search a year ago: the buyer would be a good fit for the community, has committed to preserve the historic aspect of the building and reports to have the resources to make and close on an equitable and mutually agreeable sale price.
Highlights of the Sale include:
- A sale price of $925,000 which represents a 63% profit over the Library’s 2005 purchase price and falls within the range of an appraisal the Library had commissioned in the Fall of 2024. Additionally, the Library did not employ a broker, so there will be no broker fee.
- The proceeds of the sale will be utilized to stabilize the cost of the library to taxpayers in future years.
This opportunity ensures that the community can relinquish responsibility for 50 Railroad Avenue promptly when the new Library opens; this will help minimize any costs or risks for maintaining a second facility. - The building is being sold in as is condition. Renovations to the building’s interior may be required in its transition to a daycare. However, the buyer has stated that the historic character of the building, established as Norway Hall prior to serving as the Library’s first home, will remain intact.
- The sale keeps the building locally owned; the buyer is a lifelong resident and small business owner in Glen Head.
The sale is contingent on several things, including the opening of the new building and a referendum giving community members the opportunity to approve or disapprove the sale. We encourage you to vote on Wednesday, April 30th to have your voice heard.

How Can I get an Absentee Ballot?
1. Obtain an absentee ballot application from the library beginning on Wednesday, April 5th (or print it by clicking here). You may do so by stopping by or requesting one by mail. If you request one by mail, the last date to do so is Wednesday, April 23rd. If you are picking it up in person, the last day to do so is Tuesday, April 29th.
2. Complete the application and return it to the District Clerk. You may only request an absentee ballot for yourself. If you are requesting one in person for someone else, please see special instructions below.
3. When you return the application, it will be verified that you are a registered voter in the Gold Coast Public Library district and you will be given a ballot (or it will be mailed to you if requested).
4. The ballot MUST be returned, with the envelope signed, no later than 5PM on the day of the election. If the envelope is not signed, your vote will not be counted!
Picking up an absentee ballot for someone other than yourself:
To request an absentee ballot for someone other than yourself, you must present to the District Clerk a completed application along with a signed letter from the registered voter for whom you are requesting the ballot which gives us permission to give you the ballot. If you do not have both the letter and the completed, signed application, we will be unable to give you the ballot.
